METHODS FOR REMOVING GUM FROM CONCRETE

The best methods of removing gum from concrete usually depends on the gum’s age and level of penetration into the concrete surface. If the gum was left recently and it hasn’t penetrated the surface, we are sometimes able to get it off by covering it with ice until it freezes, then scraping the gum off with a metal putty knife.

The ice forces the gum to freeze into a more forgiving consistency compared to a gooey and stringy glob. Once the chewing gum is frozen, we slide a metal putty knife or scraper right under the gum. Next we slide the scraper slowly under the gum and the whole piece should then peel right off the concrete.

The above method is only possible with brand new gum.

When we remove chewing gum that has turned black, or is already smashed down into the concrete, we use a hot water power washer with the heat dialed up to 200 Degrees to melt the chewing gum. For this type of gum removal, we won’t use very high pressure because that could harm the surface of the concrete!

Our pressure washers never uses more pressure than necessary to clean commercial concrete surfaces. These surfaces can be destroyed a lot easier than most people think, especially if they’re only a couple of years old. Concrete can take up to 100 years to cure completely. That is why we always use hot water and the least amount of pressure possible for our professional gum removal professional.
